Gently – Shea came to practice with a chord progression he had been messing around with that involved some add 9s and add13s and it was very delicate sonically. Russell and Mike really wanted to keep the song beautiful and light so they played very gently. Hence where the name came from. It was also really important to let the vocals shine and let the song breathe dynamically around them. We had no idea how to end the song, we tried many times but never could find a way. In our recording at Pus, we decided to just jam the outro for a long time, maybe 10 or 12 times through the progression and having it go through the quick chord change and resolve on the first chord to end it. That way we had space to either add a solo, some vocals or just cut the length down if nothing fit. The idea of having it just fade out had always been discussed but it wasn’t until Rik finalized his vocals that we knew that is exactly what it needed. Having the song end this way just felt right, rather than stripping you from this feeling of warmth with a normal ending it allows the feeling to dissipate over time.

Lyrics
Found you there out on the bend
Not far from the riverside
Hiding out beneath the fringe
Knew I caught another scent
Right there beneath my eye
Gotta jump another fence
Be by about noon
See the way you hold my hand
One step there at a time
Till I see it in my head
Even when you say you don’t
I know you really do
So we take another try
See you again, soon
I’ll be by
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight
Ooooooooo, ooooooooo
You and I in the sun
You and I in the sun
You and I in the sun
You and I in the sun
You and I in the sun
You and I in the sun
You and I in the sun
